Burger Bowls made from seasoned ground beef and topped with tomatoes, pickles, onions, and shredded cheddar. A creamy burger sauce gives these bowls the familiar flavor of a fast-food cheeseburger without the bun.

BURGER BOWL RECIPE
These burger bowls deliver everything you love about a classic cheeseburger—juicy seasoned beef, crunchy lettuce, fresh tomatoes, pickles, onions, and melty cheddar—served in a bowl for a lighter, low-carb twist. The homemade burger sauce ties all the flavors together and gives that nostalgic, diner-style taste.
I’ve been making these for years. Sometimes I add fries on top for a treat the kids adore. My college son insisted I add this recipe to the blog because it’s one of his favorites, so here it is.

For the Bowls
Add your favorite burger toppings:
- Romaine or shredded iceberg lettuce (shredded iceberg has a Big Mac-like crunch)
- Cherry or grape tomatoes, quartered
- Red onion, diced
- Dill pickles, sliced or diced
- Shredded cheddar cheese
- Cooked bacon, crumbled (optional)
- Burger sauce — this homemade version is seasoned with mustard, relish, paprika, and more for authentic burger flavor

Ingredients
BURGER SAUCE:
- 1/2 cup mayonnaise
- 1/4 cup ketchup
- 2 tablespoons dill relish (or 1 tablespoon pickle juice)
- 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon yellow mustard
- 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/4 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/4 teaspoon paprika
- salt and pepper to taste (about 1/4 teaspoon each)
TOPPINGS:
- 6 cups chopped Romaine or iceberg lettuce
- 1 cup cheddar cheese, freshly shredded
- 1 cup cherry tomatoes, quartered
- 1 cup dill pickles, sliced or diced
- 1 cup red onion, diced
- (optional) cooked and crumbled bacon
BURGER MEAT:
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/2 teaspoon paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon fine salt (or 1 teaspoon kosher salt)
Instructions
-
For the burger sauce: In a small bowl, mix together the mayonnaise, ketchup, relish (or pickle juice), Worcestershire sauce, mustard, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, and salt and pepper. Chill until ready to serve. Sauce will keep in the refrigerator for up to a week.
-
Prep the toppings: Chop the lettuce, quarter the tomatoes, dice the onion, slice the pickles, and shred the cheese so everything is ready when the meat is finished.
-
Cook the burger meat: In a large skillet over medium-high heat, brown the ground beef until no longer pink. Drain any excess fat. Add garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, and salt; stir to combine and heat through. Serve the warm seasoned beef over the lettuce and top with tomatoes, pickles, onions, shredded cheddar, bacon if using, and a generous drizzle of burger sauce.
