Key ingredients for Smash Burger Tacos

  • Ground beef – Choose a fattier grind (around 20% fat) for the most flavor and juiciness. The fat helps create a rich crust when smashed and cooks quickly on the tortilla. Season well with salt and pepper before cooking.
  • Tortillas – Corn or flour tortillas both work; corn adds a more traditional texture while flour stays pliable. Use warmed tortillas so they bend without cracking.
  • Burger sauce – A simple burger sauce of mayo, ketchup, mustard, Worcestershire and smoked paprika ties everything together. Make it at home or use a quality store-bought sauce.

Where can I get tortillas?

Most supermarkets carry decent tortillas. For the freshest, most authentic options, check local Mexican or Latin markets where handmade or regional varieties are often available.

Tips on nailing these Smash Burger Tacos

  • Smash thin – Flatten the meat thin against the tortilla to achieve quick cooking and those desirable lacy, crispy edges.
  • Hot pan – The pan should be hot enough to sizzle when the tortilla-meat hits it. That immediate sear develops deep browning and flavor—aim for dark brown crisp bits, not gray and overcooked meat.
  • Fresh toppings – Bright, crunchy toppings (shredded lettuce, diced tomato, chopped pickles) provide contrast to the rich beef and melty cheese. Prepare them ahead so assembly is quick.

Ingredients:

  • 6-8 Corn or flour tortillas
  • 1/2 lbs Ground beef
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 1 tsp Black pepper Ground
  • 1/2 cup Iceberg lettuce Shredded
  • 1/2 cup Cheddar cheese Shredded
  • 1/2 cup Tomato Diced
  • 1/4 cup Dill pickles Chopped
  • 1 tbs Sesame seeds

For the Burger Sauce

  • 2 tbs Mayo
  • 1 tsp Ketchup
  • 1 tsp Yellow mustard
  • 1/2 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 tsp Smoked paprika

Instructions:

  • Lay out the tortillas. Roll the ground beef into golf-ball sized portions. Lightly dampen your hands with water and press each portion thin onto a tortilla. Season with salt and pepper.
  • Heat a large non-stick pan over medium-high heat. Place the tortillas meat-side down in the pan and cook for about 2–3 minutes, until well browned and crispy at the edges.
  • Flip the tortillas, sprinkle shredded cheddar over the cooked meat, and cook another 90 seconds or so until the cheese melts. Placing a lid on the pan helps the cheese melt evenly.
  • Whisk the burger sauce together in a small bowl: mayo, ketchup, mustard, Worcestershire and smoked paprika.
  • Top each taco with burger sauce, shredded lettuce, diced tomato, chopped pickles and a sprinkle of sesame seeds. Serve immediately while hot and crispy.

Enjoy!
