Happy Hummus Saturday, legume-loving friends!
This is the second-to-last post in Sinful Nutrition’s Hummus Week, and it’s been a fun experiment in taking hummus to unexpected places. If you love burgers but prefer plant-based options, these hummus-stuffed bean burgers are a great twist on the classic stuffed-cheese Jucy Lucy — but with caramelized onion hummus instead of melting cheese.

I’m not a fan of gooey melting cheese, so a hummus-filled burger is much more my speed. I used my simple bean burger base and added Sabra Caramelized Onion hummus as the filling for a smoky, slightly sweet flavor. These burgers are easy, fast, and adaptable — great for weeknights or a casual weekend cookout.
If you like caramelized onions on burgers, you’ll love the way this hummus brings that flavor inside each patty.
Cooking Tips:
- Pinch the edges of each patty after filling to help seal in the hummus and prevent leakage while cooking.
- These are versatile — try different hummus flavors and spices. Basil and sun-dried tomato hummus, or jalapeño hummus with chili powder and cumin, are tasty variations.
- Swap black beans for other beans if you like. Starchier varieties such as kidney or cannellini hold together well.
- If the mixture feels too dry to form patties, add water a tablespoon at a time until it holds together.
