A woman’s touch can transform a house into a warm, inviting home. I didn’t fully appreciate that until I moved out of my parents’ house and found myself craving that cozy feeling, especially as the holidays approached. With fall finally here, I’m gradually shifting our home toward autumnal décor and comforts. Read my newest blog post, Getting Your Home Ready For Fall.

I love everything about this season — from cooking my favorite fall recipes to layering warm colors and textures throughout our rooms. Below are a few of my favorite, practical ways to transition your home into fall:
- Use a stovetop simmer pot to scent the house naturally. I make a simple fall simmer pot whenever we have guests. It’s a non-toxic way to fill the home with seasonal fragrance without the chemicals in many candles and air fresheners.
- Bake seasonal treats. Nothing announces autumn like pumpkin baking — my gluten-free pumpkin bread and oat flour pumpkin muffins are staples in our kitchen.
- Introduce fall beverages. We’ve made the pear cocktail (or mocktail) a seasonal favorite; it’s become our go-to drink for gatherings and quiet evenings alike.
- Make soups in batches. I prepare large portions of soup and freeze them for easy meals all winter. My carrot and butternut squash soup and slow-cooker pumpkin soup are regulars on the menu.
- Plant mums for instant curb appeal. This was new for me after we moved into our current home last fall. I picked up several mums and used the popular trick of letting them sit in a bucket of water before planting — it seemed to help. We placed them near the front door and on the porch pillars, which added immediate seasonal charm.
- Swap in warmer-toned textiles and accents. Changing small items like a kitchen runner or hand towels is an affordable way to refresh your space each season. I recently added a warm-toned kitchen runner and coordinating kitchen hand towels, and the difference is noticeable. Storing these seasonal pieces to reuse yearly keeps costs low and impact high.
