Ingredients

This recipe uses just a few basic ingredients but delivers plenty of flavor. Use chicken tenderloins or cut chicken breasts into strips or nugget-sized pieces—whatever is easiest for you.

Ingredients needed to make Dorito Chicken.

I’ve made this with both Nacho Cheese and Cool Ranch Doritos, and both turn out great. It tastes a bit like a Doritos Loco Taco—but fresh and homemade.

Method

This recipe is incredibly easy. Start by whisking eggs with a little salt and pepper, and crush the chips into fine crumbs. Arrange the egg mixture and the crushed Doritos in shallow bowls so you can quickly bread the chicken.

Dip each piece of chicken into the egg mixture, then press it into the crushed Doritos until well coated. Place the coated pieces on a baking sheet, drizzle lightly with olive oil to promote crisping, and bake until the chicken is golden and reaches an internal temperature of 165°F.

Serve with your favorite dipping sauce—ranch is a classic pairing. These crunchy chicken pieces are also great on a salad with tomatoes, cheddar, red onion, and black beans for a Dorito-inspired taco salad.

Notes & Tips

This recipe is an excellent way to use half-full or slightly stale bags of chips. Stale Doritos will crisp back up in the oven, so there’s no need to waste them.

If you don’t have enough chips to fully coat the chicken, mix in some panko breadcrumbs to extend the coating; panko will also add extra crunch.

Substitutions

Cutting chicken breasts into strips works well, but you can use tenderloins, or cut the chicken into chunks for nugget-style pieces. If you avoid eggs, a flax egg works well as a binder to help the chips adhere. If you avoid dairy, simply omit the milk used in the egg wash.

You can use any Doritos flavor you like—Nacho Cheese is a great go-to, but feel free to experiment.

This super easy Dorito Chicken makes a great weeknight dinner and is super dippable! It reminds me of a Dorito’s Loco Taco, but chicken!

Ingredients

  • 3-4 large Chicken Breasts, cut into strips
  • 2 large Eggs
  • 2 tablespoons Whole Milk
  • 1 Bag of Doritos, any flavor (I used Nacho Cheese)
  • 2 teaspoons Olive Oil
  • Ranch Dressing, for dipping (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 425˚F. Line a baking sheet with foil and spray or grease lightly.
  2. Slice the chicken into strips or use tenderloins.
  3. In a medium bowl, whisk together the eggs and milk until combined.
  4. Crush the Doritos in the bag until they resemble fine crumbs and transfer to a shallow plate.
  5. Dredge the chicken in the egg mixture, then press into the crushed Doritos until well coated. Arrange on the prepared baking sheet.
  6. Drizzle the olive oil over the coated chicken and bake 15–20 minutes, until crisp and an instant-read thermometer registers 165˚F.
  7. Serve with ranch or your favorite dipping sauce. These are also great on salads or alongside fries.

Notes

This is a great way to use partial or stale bags of chips—stale chips will crisp back up during baking. If you need more coating, mix in panko breadcrumbs to bulk up the crumbs and add extra crunch. For an egg-free option, use a flax egg as a binder. Omit milk if you prefer a dairy-free version. Any Doritos flavor will work, so feel free to experiment.
