Whipped Honey Butter Recipe: Smooth, Spreadable & Quick

Honey butter is creamy, dreamy, and one of my favorite condiments to make. Whip softened butter with honey in an electric mixer until light and fluffy, then finish with a pinch of flaky sea salt. It’s a perfect finishing touch for warm breads, muffins, and roasted vegetables.

Spread it on warm Southern cornbread, homemade beer bread, or mashed into cooked sweet potatoes — it elevates every bite. I especially love a smear on a warm buttermilk muffin for breakfast; it’s indulgent but irresistible.

🥘 Ingredients Needed

The ingredients in honey butter, laid out in small bowls and labeled.
  • Salted Butter – Use room-temperature (softened) butter so it whips airy and combines with the honey. You can use unsalted butter and finish with flaky sea salt if you prefer.
  • Honey – Choose your favorite honey. Local honey works great if you like its flavor.
  • Flaky Sea Salt – A pinch to finish, such as Maldon-style flakes.
  • Optional – To make cinnamon honey butter, add vanilla extract and ground cinnamon. Powdered sugar can be added for a creamier, sweeter version.

🍽 Equipment Needed

  • Electric Hand Mixer – A hand mixer reaches the bowl edges and whips the butter light and fluffy.
  • Small Mixing Bowl
  • Rubber Spatula – For scraping the bowl clean.

How to Make Whipped Butter

Making whipped honey butter is incredibly simple. The key is softened (not melted) butter so you can whip air into it for a spreadable, fluffy texture.

Place the softened butter in a small bowl and beat with the electric mixer until smooth and fluffy. Add the honey and continue mixing until fully combined. Scrape the bowl with a rubber spatula to incorporate any honey clinging to the sides.

If you want two flavors, split the batch into two containers. Leave one plain and add vanilla and cinnamon to the other for cinnamon honey butter. You can also add a bit of confectioners’ sugar to make a richer, creamier spread similar to restaurant-style butter.

🫙 How to Store Honey Butter

Store honey butter in an airtight container or a small mason jar in the refrigerator. It keeps well chilled and looks attractive in a jar. Remove it about 30 minutes before serving to soften slightly.

🧈 Whipped Butter Variations
