Baked apples are simple to prepare and filled with a buttery brown sugar, cinnamon, and oatmeal crumble. They make a cozy breakfast or an elegant, light dessert for autumn.

Baked Apples:
These baked apples are an easy, delicious way to enjoy the caramel notes of fall apples. If you’ve been apple picking, they’re perfect for using up a bushel. The apples are cored and filled with a brown sugar–oat crumble that bakes until golden and slightly crisp on top—think apple crisp in individual apple form. They’re attractive served right in the apple and are fun to make with family. This dessert is indulgent yet not overly heavy, so it satisfies a sweet craving while keeping things cozy and seasonal. Serve warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream and a drizzle of caramel.

Recipe Notes and Tips:
- I like Gala apples for this recipe because they’re crisp, sweet, and hold their shape while baking. Other good options are Honeycrisp, Granny Smith, or Jonagold—each offers a slightly different balance of sweetness and tartness.
- To prepare, slice the top off each apple and use a spoon or melon baller to scoop out the core and flesh, leaving about a 1/2-inch border so the apple keeps its structure and holds the filling.
- For serving, top with vanilla ice cream, whipped cream, and a drizzle of caramel or chocolate sauce as desired.

Enjoy!
