Keto-Friendly Waffle Bowl Recipe for Savory & Sweet Bowls

Low Carb Waffle Bowl Recipe

I’m always looking for ways to keep food exciting so a low carb lifestyle doesn’t feel restrictive. I recently received a waffle bowl maker and immediately started experimenting. Instead of a standard waffle batter I tested a chocolate protein-based batter to create a low carb waffle bowl that holds together and tastes great.

This recipe works well with a chocolate meal-replacement or protein powder. I used a chocolate Ketologic Meal Shake in the test; a collagen powder didn’t perform as well for structure. The bowl is sturdy enough to hold sugar-free keto ice cream and a drizzle of sugar-free chocolate syrup. You can also fill the bowl with keto-friendly fruit and a little whipped cream for a lighter treat.

After testing several variations, this version produced a waffle bowl with good flavor and texture without the dry or crumbly mouthfeel typical of many keto waffle recipes. It’s a special treat for the family—my kids love them—and a nice way to offer a sweet but sugar-free option at parties or family gatherings.

Low Carb Waffle Bowl Recipe Ingredients

  • 1 egg, whipped
  • 1 scoop chocolate meal-replacement or chocolate protein powder (I used Ketologic Meal Shake)
  • 1 tablespoon almond flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking powder

Low Carb Waffle Bowl Recipe Instructions

  1. Preheat the waffle bowl maker and spray it with nonstick cooking spray.
  2. Crack the egg into a small bowl and whip until frothy.
  3. Add the chocolate meal replacement (or protein powder), almond flour, and baking powder to the whipped egg.
  4. Mix until the batter is smooth and all ingredients are combined.
  5. Place the batter in the preheated waffle bowl maker and cook about 1 to 1 1/2 minutes. When you see steam, it’s nearly done.
  6. Use tongs to carefully remove the hot waffle bowl from the maker and set it aside to cool and firm up.
  7. Fill with keto ice cream, sugar-free syrup, or fruit and enjoy.

This makes one large waffle bowl or two mini bowls depending on your waffle maker.
