Go Straight to the Printables

What is the You’ve Been Booed game?

This is a simple, neighborly way to spread Halloween joy. Early October is a great time to begin.

The idea is simple: anonymously deliver a treat basket to two neighbors along with the printable poem from this post. Those neighbors then pass treats to two more neighbors, and the chain continues until many homes have a surprise.

After a house is booed, they display a “We’ve Been Booed” sign on their door so others know they’ve already received treats. Before long, your neighborhood will be full of festive surprises.

Printing Instructions

  1. Open the files by clicking the buttons below; they will open in a new tab.
    • For PDFs: use the printer icon to print directly or the download arrow to save the file to your device.
    • For Canva templates: click “Use the template for a new design” to create your own editable copy in Canva.
  2. Customize the Canva template if you like — change colors, fonts, or graphics. Not on Canva? Ready-to-print PDFs are included.
  3. Print on standard 8.5×11″ paper. A home inkjet printer works well; for more durability, use cardstock.
  4. Cut the pages apart. A straight-edge paper cutter gives clean lines, but scissors work too.
  5. Include the QR code snippet: trim the small section on each page and tuck it into your boo basket so recipients can find the printables and keep the chain going.

FAQs

Booing season typically begins in early October and continues through Halloween. That timeframe gives the surprise lots of chances to spread. Apartment dwellers can join too—simply leave a printable on a neighbor’s door or mailbox.

Yes! Booing works in shared living spaces. Try leaving a treat in a common area, taping the printable to a neighbor’s door, or dropping a small bag outside their unit.

You can boo any time of day. Many prefer evening for the extra festive feel and the classic “ring and run” excitement, but daytime surprises are just as welcome—what matters most is the thought behind it.

It happens—and it’s perfectly fine. Suggest they pass along the extra basket to a neighbor who hasn’t been booed yet or save it for next year. Extra treats are never a bad outcome!
